Penelope's is primarily a low-end jewelry boutique. They sell some sterling silver, and some name-brand items such as Pandora. Around the holidays, you will be greeted with a salesperson holding a clipboard, inquiring about the reason you have visited the store. Don't expect to get past this person without providing a legitimate answer. The ratio of salespeople to customers is probably 3:1. A customer is not shown a tray of jewelry, but instead questioned about which item they may be shopping. It appears the management is afraid of theft. I think most high-end jewelry stores have more flexibility with merchandise than Penelope's. Every salesperson is trained the same way, as a guard or gatekeeper. Not a very appealing sales technique. Salespeople come across as rude and non-customer-friendly. I guess the store sustains a profit level where they do not care how they treat the customer.
