The Grocery is a slightly misleading name for this progressive King Street restaurant, stocking a small yet tasty menu of foods sourced from within Charleston or just on the outskirts of the city. The dishes range between tapas-style bites and more substantial plates, each of chef and owner Kevin Johnson's selections focusing on the quality of the produce and meat on offer. The restaurant boasts house made charcuterie and even an in-store canning operation designed to preserve the freshest flavors of the season. Surprisingly, a number of tasty cocktails are available at The Grocery's bar, all using fresh juices and mixers to create interesting tweaks to tried-and-true cocktails. One of the more forward-thinking establishments on King Street if not in Charleston as a whole, The Grocery is an interesting showcase of South Carolina's current culinary trends.
