Established to promote and nurture the arts, the Galveston Artist Residency is a safe-haven for budding local artists. The gallery undertakes numerous programmes, such as its 'open call residency grants' where one deserving artist is given the opportunity to utilize its state-of-the-art facilities for a year. Their work is showcased at exhibitions and other public platforms, thus exposing their work to a larger audience.

The Galveston Artist Residency is an exceptional gallery. Each year the residency program hosts three artists for 11 months. At the end of their term, they hold a group show of their work. During the year, they mount an ambitious exhibitions. I have been impressed with GAR's programs and exhibitions, and it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the Houston area. It is especially fun to visit during one of Galveston's Art Walks, so check your cultural calendar for dates and times.
