Anthropic Unifies Memory Across Claude and Cowork

Claude 's memory capabilities are getting a significant upgrade. Now, when you switch from Claude to Cowork, the same memory from past chats with the AI tool stays with you. That way, you don't have to readd context when you switch tools, saving you time and letting you focus on the project at hand.

With Cowork sharing Claude's memory, all previous conversations are available for Cowork to dig into. It'll remember your preferences on writing style and other projects you've worked on for reference. 

Anthropic has also added a series of new memory-related features, including options for what you want to store and easier ways to manage chat history. 

A helpful new addition for Claude is that you no longer have to tell it to remember something — it updates its memory as you chat with it. The real-time updates mean Claude can recall something specific without you having to tell it to. You can pause or reset your memory at any time by going to Settings > Memory. 

Anthropic is also making it easier to manage your memories. In the memory settings, you can view all the topics Claude has saved from your previous chats and edit or delete them right there, so you keep only what you want stored. 

You can now also have Claude save sensitive topics that would normally not be included in memory. Sensitive topics aren't saved by default, but you can opt to have them stored in memory if you want. With the setting enabled, Anthropic says Claude will remember things like your gluten allergy when providing recipes for the week's meal prep. 

For your privacy and safety, some sensitive information and topics, such as government ID numbers, criminal history, financial account numbers and immigration status, will not be stored in memory, even when the setting is enabled. Claude will notify you when it's unable to save this type of information. 

By default, memory is enabled across free, Pro and Max plans on web, desktop and mobile. Sensitive topics are off by default and must be manually enabled. For mobile, Anthropic is updating the Claude app for iOS and Android to include the latest features.
