Amazon Prime members just got another reason to get more out of their membership.

As of Sept. 1, Alexa+ is now available to all customers in the U.S., and Prime members get unlimited access to Amazon's next-generation AI assistant at no additional cost . Customers without Prime can use a limited free chat experience or pay $19.99 per month for unlimited access.

That means millions of people who already pay for Amazon Prime can now use Alexa+ without adding another subscription to their monthly bills.

Alexa+ is a significantly upgraded version of the traditional Alexa voice assistant. Powered by generative AI, it is designed to handle more conversational requests, remember context and complete more complicated tasks than the original Alexa.

Amazon says Prime members can access Alexa+ across Alexa-enabled devices, the Alexa app and Alexa.com, with access extending to the entire household at no additional cost.

And it does considerably more than answer simple questions or set a timer.

Alexa+ can help users research topics, plan activities, manage calendars, create reminders, get personalized recommendations and handle certain tasks on their behalf. Amazon says users can also ask Alexa+ to order takeout, find restaurants, book a ride or schedule services such as home repairs.

It can also connect with compatible smart-home devices, including Ring cameras, and Amazon has been expanding the number of devices and services that work with the assistant.

The timing of the announcement is notable because Amazon has been increasingly building Alexa+ into the company's broader ecosystem.

On Aug. 19, Amazon announced that Alexa+ would also be included at no additional cost on compatible Fire TV devices, giving users another way to use the AI assistant while watching television.

For Prime members, however, the biggest takeaway is simple: Alexa+ is now part of the membership rather than another monthly bill.

Amazon lists the standalone price for unlimited Alexa+ access at $19.99 per month for customers without Prime. Prime members receive the full experience at no additional cost, making the latest upgrade another benefit tucked into a subscription many people already have.

To get started, Prime members can say, "Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+," or sign in through Alexa.com.
