Microsoft Confirms Plan for Copilot 'Super App' Merging Its AI Tools

Copilot is accessible in most Windows software, but Microsoft wants to bring its disparate AI tools together into one, easy-to-use "super app," says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

During an earnings call , Nadella confirmed that the app, first tipped by Fortune in May , would include access to Copilot tools like Autopilots, Cowork, and Code, alongside its chatbot functionality, all in software designed to span "both consumer and commercial experiences."

The new Copilot service will launch this quarter, according to Nadella, who called it a "major step forward" for Microsoft's AI. If it's offered as part of Windows 11 , it may arrive on your computer without you needing to download anything.

OpenAI recently unveiled its own "super app," called ChatGPT Work , while Anthropic's Claude Cowork works similarly, combining more advanced tools with its chatbot. Many AI tech companies believe these all-encompassing apps are the future of how you will interact with their large language model tech.

This comes as some Windows users have pushed back on the AI creep in Windows; Microsoft even removed Copilot from some less useful locations in Windows 11 in April.

Still, Nadella said on the call that user satisfaction scores for Copilot have doubled, although he didn't share any specific metrics. "The number of conversations per user nearly doubled year-over-year," he said, adding that weekly engagement with Copilot is on par with Outlook and Teams. It's unclear whether these figures also refer to users who interact with Copilot AI in those tools, such as for meeting recaps or drafting emails.
