Never Leave Copilot? Web Pages Can Now Open Inside Microsoft's AI App

Microsoft is making another push to keep you inside its Copilot app. With the latest update, Windows Insiders who click a link will see the web page open in a new tab within the Copilot app.

If you grant permission, Copilot will also be able to view and answer questions about the tabs you've opened. You can ask it to summarize the pages, answer follow-up questions, or complete tasks based on the information available.

If the web pages you open require you to log in, you can ask Copilot to save login credentials for future reference. This also requires you to opt in.

The updates are available on all Insider channels with Copilot app version 146.0.3856.39 or higher. The new additions may be limited to select regions at launch, but Microsoft plans to gradually roll them out to testers worldwide.

Whether users are open to sharing passwords with Copilot remains to be seen. Recently, a bug allowed the chatbot to  access confidential emails  in Outlook's sent and draft folders without permission. The over-integration of Copilot with regular apps has also been controversial. Earlier this year, Windows Insider reported that even within Microsoft, people were pushing back against the trend, so the company was planning to dial back some of its rollouts.
