Website creation is becoming AI-first. Today at the Webflow Conf 2026 in Boston, Webflow CEO Linda Tong announced the launch of Source, a platform where human users can build websites alongside AI agents.

Source will give AI agents direct access to website code while enabling marketers to build with a visual user interface. The release will give every human worker and agent a governed workspace, while enabling users to generate pages with prompts.

The move reflects the growing popularity of AI in marketing workflows, with Salesforce finding that 75% of marketers have adopted AI. At the same time, tools like Cursor, Claude Code and Codex have made it possible for anyone to build websites with vibecoding, putting pressure on CMS vendors to evolve and embrace agentic capabilities.

Webflow isn't alone in aiming to make its ecosystem more accessible to AI agents. Back in January, WordPress announced wp-playground, an AI agent skill designed to run WordPress via the Playground CLI, allowing agents to run and test WordPress code as they iterate.

The Age Of 'AI Pilled' Marketing

The term 'AI pilled' has picked up traction among the enterprise tech community in 2026 with cofounder and partner of Floodgate, Ann Miura-Ko, telling Bloomberg in August that the term is often used to describe companies using hundreds or thousands of agents at a time, noting that companies are building "software factories" of AI agents, which are being used to create software across key functions like sales and marketing.

Shiv Verma, CFO of Robinhood, also noted in the company's Q1 earnings call that the firm was "getting AI pilled," stating that its marketing team had launched campaigns built end-to-end using AI. Elsewhere, in an interview with Business Insider, Wix's CMO Omer Shai noted how the organization has been using AI to reshape its marketing department around full-stack marketers.

As part of its transformation from a CMS platform to an agentic web platform, Webflow has been attempting to automate its internal processes, while revamping its public-facing products to better support human-agent marketing operations."Every company is talking about how they're building AI pilled or AI native teams and how those teams work," Tong told me in a video interview. "Marketing, I would argue, is probably the most complex function of any company."

Tong argues that AI has transformed marketing with the emergence of "pi-shaped individuals," or "AI pilled plus domain-specific specialists," who work across the entire marketing team. "We pair those individuals with a team of agents to actually run their workflows," Tong said.

"So instead of hiring 10 content writers, you might hire a content strategist who's thinking about how your content should operate across your team, and then works with a team of agents to actually generate a lot of that content," Tong added. "Every marketer is now shifting into a role of strategy and planning for their domain specialty."

Tong said that across the company's marketing org and customer organizations, many marketers are working alongside teams of agents on execution. In response to this shift, the company is aiming to build "agentic closed-loop workflows" that can pair with these employees.

For instance, Tong shares an example of an employee who is a marketer by trade who has built a team of agents to constantly assess how AEO, GEO and SEO are evolving, a function that helps support the company's AEO product. In this sense, Webflow is attempting to demonstrate what AI pilled marketing looks like.

Navigating The Agentic Web

AI agents are reshaping software design across the tech industry. In June, Madhav Thattai, executive vice president and general manager of Agentforce at Salesforce, told me that humans and agents will be orchestrating and driving digital experiences together in the future.

Other business leaders are also noting a shift in the way software is built. Also in June, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Qualcomm president and CEO Cristiano Amon discussed a "platform shift," or movement away from building operating systems for apps and devices toward building for agents instead.

"Agentic platforms represent the next evolution of software, bringing together content, data, workflows, analytics and AI agents in a shared environment. Unlike traditional CMS or AI coding tools, they're designed to help organizations create, manage and optimize digital experiences at scale," Jonathan Kletzel, sales, service and marketing practice leader at PwC US told me via email. "The shift is from software that helps users complete tasks to platforms where humans and agents collaborate continuously around an outcome," Kletzel said.

Kletzel says that AI agents are moving companies beyond automating individual tasks to redesigning end-to-end workflows. Instead of using AI separately for tasks like content creation, design, analysis or optimization, organizations can orchestrate those activities together around a business objective.

Inside Source

Webflow's long term bet with Source is that human-agent teams will require specialized infrastructure to collaborate together and develop digital experiences. "Source is Webflow's attempt to create an AI orchestration layer across web production. Code becomes the shared foundation, while marketers, designers, developers and agents get different ways to work against it. Permissions, brand standards and business rules determine what can ship," Terra Higginson, principal research director at Info-Tech Research Group, told me via email.

Building infrastructure that's more accessible to AI agents opens the door to continuously manage, optimize and refine digital experiences over time. For example, with Source, AI agents can monitor site and campaign performance to identify what approaches are working and offer marketers suggestions on how to improve assets.

Source is a "collaboration orchestration layer," that illustrates a fundamental shift in software creation. "Virtually anyone who is building software for any vertical really needs to build a collaboration and orchestration layer on top of a system of record," Tong said. "I like to think we're on the cutting edge of where the future of marketing software is going to be."
