Google Launches Pics, a Canva-Style AI Editor Built Into Docs and Slides

This Monday, Google launched Google Pics, a new AI-powered image generator and editor built into Google Workspace. The service, which is aimed more at professional and educational users than day-to-day casual users, uses Google's Nano Banana to generate images and allows object-level edits.

Users can open Pics in their browser, generate multiple visual variations from a text prompt, or upload images from their computer, Drive, or Photos as a starting point. The editor lets users isolate objects, make specific changes, and edit or translate in-image text into 29 languages without changing the entire image. It also supports cropping for different formats and upscaling images to 2K or 4K resolution.

Google also integrated Pics into Google Docs and Google Slides on day one, so users can click an image to open the editor as an overlay, without the export-and-import cycle. Drive integration will come in the following weeks.

Google Pics rolled out first to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Workspace business customers on paid plans like Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus. Free Google accounts and Workspace Business Starter don't have access.
