Bored of Wordle? Apple’s Latest Emoji Puzzle Game May Be For You
Wordle has become a part of many people's routine since its launch in 2021, and rivals have been trying to replicate its success with new word puzzle games. The New York Times even bought Wordle to bring in its large player base.
If you like daily puzzle games, you may be interested in Apple's latest release. The newly launched puzzle is called Emoji Game, and it's designed to get players to use the icons to complete short phrases. There's new puzzles every day joining other Apple News+ titles like its crosswords, Sudoku, and Quartiles .
This new game gives you three phrases, but each has part of it blanked out. You're then tasked with using emoji to put in on top of the missing letters to add in a new word.
An example given says "THE" followed by five blank spaces, then the word "IS" and five more blank spaces. The clue given is, "It's too early to go home already." The answer here is "The Night Is Young," and emoji like the night sky or the moon can be used to represent night, while a baby emoji can be used for young.
Every day there will be three new puzzles to get, and you want to get the correct answer in as few moves as possible. There's no upper limit for the amount of guesses you can make. The app will monitor your daily results and show how you're doing through the Game Center leaderboards.
"Emoji Game is the perfect addition to the Apple News+ suite of word and number puzzles, turning the emoji we use every day into a brainteaser that's approachable and fun," said Lauren Kern, editor-in-chief of Apple News.
The Emoji Game is now available to all Apple News+ subscribers in the US and Canada. You have to pay to be able to access this, unlike a lot of the alternative games from rivals. Apple News+ costs $12.99 a month with access to content from 400 different publications.
Apple first announced this game at WWDC 2025 where it said the feature would be coming as part of iOS 26 . The company decided to launch it early for everyone running iOS 18.4 as it's World Emoji Day on July 17.
