Garmin is expanding its reach of SmartCharts for Garmin Pilot Premium users in Canada and Mexico who utilize both web and Apple mobile platforms. SmartCharts are a digital charting option that puts flight-critical information at a pilot's finger tips.

Introduced in May of last year, SmartCharts optimize pilot workflow by providing only relevant data. Users can select specific aircraft type, arrival/departure/approach transition fix, and other pertinent information that pilots need to successfully brief and fly the instrument procedure.

Quick-access buttons also reveal pertinent procedure information, such as communication frequencies, and graphical missed approach icons help pilots decipher and keep track of the information they need to maintain situational awareness.

According to Garmin, in addition to all the previously announced SmartCharts features, pilots in Canada and Mexico can now take advantage of the Continuous Descent Final Approach (CDFA) path shown on the vertical profile view, along with cold weather adjustments that allow them to utilize cold-temperature-restricted airports and see the calculations and  corrections.

Additional improvements in this SmartCharts release include a missed approach climb gradient table displayed on approach charts and applicable climb gradient values being shown on departure procedure charts. Since the purpose of the missed approach is to get the aircraft away from the ground in a safe and timely manner, this feature is most appreciated.

SmartCharts are included with a Garmin Pilot Premium subscription for pilots operating in the United States, Canada, and Latin America regions. For pilots who fly across multiple regions, a Worldwide subscription option is also available.

These updates are available now on Garmin Pilot Web. Garmin Pilot mobile users can update to version 26.8 via the App Store.
