See That? Meta Rolls Out Ray-Ban Smart Glasses 'Built for Prescriptions'
UPDATE:Meta today announced Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that "support nearly all prescriptions," as well as new colors and lens options for Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta frames.
Existing Ray-Ban Metas support prescription lenses, but Meta says these new smart specs are built for prescriptions and will "better serve" those who need corrective lenses.
The prescription Ray-Ban Meta will come in two styles: Blayzer, a rectangular design available in Standard and Large sizes, and Scriber, a more rounded frame style. They're available to preorder now, starting at $499, on Meta.com and Ray-Ban.com , and launch on April 14.
New color options for Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) frames include:
-
Skyler in Shiny Transparent Peach with Transitions Brown Lenses
-
Headliner in Matte Transparent Peach with Transitions Grey Lenses
-
Wayfarer in Shiny Transparent Grey with Transitions Sapphire Lenses
HSTN Black with Prizm Dark Golf Lenses
New frame colors and lens combinations for Oakley Meta Vanguard and HSTN include:
-
Vanguard Black with Prizm Black Lenses
-
Vanguard White with Prizm Rose Gold Lenses
-
Vanguard Black with Prizm Transitions Ember Lenses (available later this spring)
-
HSTN Black with Prizm Dark Golf Lenses
-
HSTN Light Curry with Clear to Brown Transitions Lenses
Meta also promises AI upgrades that support hands-free nutrition tracking and the option to ask your glasses for feedback on your diet. ("What should I eat to increase my energy?") It's coming to Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses soon and Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses later this summer in the US, provided you're 18+.
Meanwhile, those in the Early Access Program (EAP) can soon ask the glasses for WhatsApp summaries. And Neural Handwriting on Meta Ray-Ban Display, which lets you write with your finger on any surface, is rolling out to everyone in the coming weeks and will work with iMessage. Finally, pedestrian navigation will expand to "every city across the US in May, so you can get turn-by-turn directions right in your lens," Meta says.
Original Story 3/29:
Meta plans to launch two new Ray-Ban smart glasses models specifically aimed at prescription wearers as soon as next week, Bloomberg
reports.
The new models will reportedly come in rectangular and rounded styles, and are expected to be sold mainly via "traditional prescription eyewear channels." Though there was no mention made of any specific launch partners or what the new specs could actually cost when they hit the market. The patents were first reported by tech blogger Janko Roettgers , under the code names "RayBan Meta Scriber" and "RayBan Meta Blazer."
Users are already able to add prescription lenses, either from Ray-Ban itself or from third-party suppliers, to their Meta Ray-Bans. Looking at the patents, it's not entirely clear how the new model will differ from traditional Meta Ray-Bans, but 9to5Google speculates new specs could have differences in terms of their battery life, their frame thickness or their weight.
The latest move shouldn't come as that much of a surprise, Meta was already eyeing the existing market of billions of people with imperfect eyesight. Bloomberg pointed to an earnings call from this January where Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said "it's hard to imagine a world in several years where most glasses that people wear aren't AI glasses."
"Billions of people wear glasses or contacts for vision correction," Zuckerberg told investors. "I think that we're at a moment similar to when smartphones arrived, and it was clearly only a matter of time until all those flip phones became smartphones."
The news of the new glasses comes amid strong demand for Meta's eyewear. After launching its Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses in late 2025 , the company has reportedly considered doubling production to meet demand, even as it continues layoffs at its Reality Labs division.
