This Beautiful CD Player Is Another Big Win for Fans of Physical Media

The rising audiophile brand has upgraded one of its signature hi-fi components. And yes, it now plays CDs.

Eversolo released the original  DMP-A8 back in 2023. It's a streaming DAC and preamplifier designed to partner with a traditional power amplifier and serve as the brains of a modern hi-fi system. At the time, it cost $1,980.

Three years later, the fast-growing hi-fi brand has now introduced the "Gen 2" model. Not only that, but it's introduced a "Master" version that adds a top-loading CD player. Pretty cool.

Both Eversolo's new DMP-A8 Gen 2 and DMP-A8 Gen 2 (Master Edition) work much like the original DMP-A8. Each combines a network music player, high-resolution DAC, and analog preamplifier into one modern-looking box with a colorful display (which, if you're unfamiliar with Eversolo, is a design that the brand is known for).

And like its predecessor, each is quite versatile. They can be used as an external DAC and preamplifier for a power amplifier or a set of active speakers. Or they can add high-resolution streaming or network playback to an integrated amplifier or existing hi-fi system.

The main difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 models is that the latter has been upgraded with a more powerful and faster processor, a larger touchscreen display and more connections (notably, a dedicated subwoofer output) to allow you to better build out your system.

As mentioned, the other main difference is that Eversolo introduced a "Master Edition" version with a top-loading CD player. (There was no Master Edition of the original DMP-A8.) When playing CDs, the album artwork and playback information will be shown on the touchscreen display.

In addition to the CD player, Eversolo says the Master Edition adds "further enhancing clock system performance, digital source processing, and overall system purity."

Price and availability

Another neat thing: Eversolo didn't increase the price. The DMP-A8 Gen 2 costs $1,980, the same as the original. Naturally, the Master Edition costs more. It is priced at $2,580.

Eversolo's new DMP-A8 Gen 2 and DMP-A8 Gen 2 (Master Edition) are both available now from authorized retailers.
