Double drop! Rotel expands its premium Michi portfolio with a new stereo amplifier and preamplifier

While it may have forged much of its reputation on its budget hi-fi separates, including the outstanding A8 integrated amplifier , Rotel's premium Michi product series has produced some real gems. From the Michi X3 amplifier to the Michi Q5 CD player , Rotel knows how to operate in the higher echelons of the hi-fi market.

Now, the Japanese brand is adding to its more premium collection of separates with two new additions to the Michi lineup: the Michi Prestige P430 preamplifier and the Michi Prestige S430 stereo amplifier.

According to Rotel, the S430 stereo amp is aimed at listeners who want to step up to a fully fledged separates system, delivering 230 watts per channel into 8 ohms.

The new amplifier uses an advanced architecture which combines an oversized in-house-manufactured toroidal transformer, large bulk-storage capacitors, isolated signal routing and multi-stage push-pull output transistors, all of which combine for "firm bass control" and outstanding "dynamic impact".

In terms of connections, the Michi Prestige S430 houses balanced XLR and RCA inputs alongside dual 5-way speaker binding posts. Externally, the S430 features an aluminium chassis and a front-panel display with selectable metre displays and a backlit power toggle.

Also arriving is the Michi Prestige P430 preamplifier, designed to bridge the gap between traditional and modern sources for listeners who want ample connectivity options alongside the performance of a separates set-up.

Central to the new preamplifier is an ESS SABRE ES9028PRO 8-channel DAC which, says Rotel, renders recordings "with pristine clarity, natural detail, and an open, precisely focused soundstage". The P430 is capable of supporting PCM files up to 32-bit/384kHz, as well as DSD256.

Further, the new preamplifier has been built to preserve signal integrity via its transparent signal paths and refined power-supply architecture, resulting in a sound which balances "exceptional control and musical insight".

The P430 boasts balanced XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, coaxial and optical inputs, and HDMI ARC for connecting to a home cinema set-up and a moving magnet phono stage for partnering with a turntable.

Further connections include dual subwoofer outputs, a 6.35mm headphone port, and wireless Bluetooth connectivity with aptX HD codec support for streaming files up to 24-bit/48kHz.

The Michi Prestige S430 stereo amplifier and Michi Prestige P430 preamplifier are available this September. The S430 will set you back £3599 / $3999 / €3999, while the P430 is priced at £3599 / $3999 / €3999.
