Our Favorite Audio Brand Just Dropped the Sound Bar You Need

Whenever an audio brand I like enters a new space, my ears perk up. For a few years now, Marshall—as in, big rock-and-roll stack Marshall—has been making a great line of consumer-focused speakers and headphones . Gen Z readers are probably most familiar with the Major V, the brand's trendy no-frills wireless Bluetooth headphones that I see everywhere these days. But until last year, Marshall had never dabbled in the TV audio space. With the release of the Heston 120 last summer, and subsequently the Heston 60 and Heston Sub 200 in the winter, that has all changed. And now, at long last, you can buy all three of them on Amazon.

It looks like people have got the memo already. Since going up on Tuesday, stock of both the black and cream colors of all three items has waxed and waned. Restocks seem frequent, so be patient if you're already convinced this is something you need. If not, let me try and point you in the right direction.

For the past couple of months, I've been testing out the Heston 60, the more compact and inexpensive of the two Marshall soundbars. In terms of sound and design, Marshall has brought its A-game. It's not a flawless speaker, but it is a near-perfect all-in-one audio solutions for people with small TVs in small living rooms. If you're looking for a compact soundbar solution , this might just be the one.

In the classic Marshall gold and black, I don't think I can name a soundbar that looks better. In many ways the sound matches. Even without connecting the dedicated Sub 200 subwoofer, this soundbar packs a bass-forward punch. This is especially felt when streaming music (via Bluetooth or Spotify Connect over Wi-Fi, just two of many connectivity features) or when the needle drop hits at the end of your episode.

Even taking into consideration the lack of dedicated up-firing speakers (which the larger Heston 120 has), the Dolby Atmos performance is impressive. If you need an easy introduction to spatial audio, let it be this one. The only serious complaint I had in my time testing was that whenever I would let the TV pause or idle for too long, the soundbar would disconnect. I can only speak to my own experience with my TV at home, but having to cycle through the buttons on the device itself (because there's no dedicated remote) was annoying.

For more heft and deeper, more immersive bass you can grab the subwoofer too. But I think the best value is in the Heston 60 as a standalone bar—more compact and affordable than the 120 before it and with nearly as many speakers and features.
