Sonos Quietly Introduced a New Version of Its Play Speaker

Yesterday, Sonos had arguably its biggest day of announcements in years. It introduced two new products, the Ace Ultra headphones and the Beam Ultra soundbar , as well as a rebranded app, Sonos 27, and the fact that it was opening its audio platform to numerous third-party AI assistants (including OpenAI's ChatGPT).
Basically, Sonos gave its most hardcore fans many of the things they've been asking for for years.

Lost in all the hoopla was the fact that Sonos also introduced a new version of its newest portable speaker: the Play. Since it was released this past spring, the Play has only been available in black or white finishes.
Now, as of yesterday, Sonos is offering the Play in a new "sand" finish. This is the same "sand' finish as Sonos offers its Ace Ultra headphones in.

For those who don't know, the Play is essentially a smaller, more affordable version of the Move 2. It has all the same abilities, but is roughly half the size, so it's much easier to carry around the house or take to the beach.

Also, thanks to yesterday's announcements, both the Move 2 and Play have gained a new ability. If you have a pair of each, along with a Sonos soundbar, you can designate them as rear-channel speakers. It's the first time Sonos has enabled such a feature in its portable speakers.
Price and availability
The Sonos Play in the new sand finish is available for preorder now and starts shipping at the end of the month. It costs $299, same as the black or white models.
