A High-End Sonos Rival Is Having a Rare Sale on Its Signature Audiophile Speakers

Devialet is a French luxury hi-fi maker known for its Phantom wireless speakers, which can best be described as Sonos speakers on steroids.

Each Phantom works like a Sonos speaker, streaming high-resolution audio over Wi-Fi (or Bluetooth) and grouping with other Phantom speakers in stereo or multi-room configurations. But they're significantly higher-end speakers and, well, they have a rather distinct look.

Each Phantom wireless speaker has a semi-spherical design that looks kind of like the Death Star. And it pairs two central drivers, one midrange and one tweeter, with two huge force-canceling woofers on either side. When music is playing, these woofers pulsate in perfect symmetry, not unlike a heartbeat, to evenly pump bass in all directions.
Basically, each Phantom is a visceral speaker, designed to be both heard and seen.

Over the last few years, Devialet has introduced several different versions of its Phantom wireless speaker. The current flagship, the Phantom Ultimate, comes in two sizes: 108dB and 98dB.
The Phantom Ultimate 108dB ($3,999) is roughly twice the size and nearly three times as powerful than the Phantom 98dB ($1,999 ), but it's also considerably more expensive.

Devialet still sells several of its older Phantom speakers, too.
Released in 2021, the Phantom 1 comes in two versions, 103dB and 108dB . The two speakers are the same size and work the same, but the 108dB is significantly more powerful and comes with upgraded drivers. Devialet currently sells them for $2,399 and $3,399, respectively.

The Phantom II are the oldest wireless speakers, released in 2018. Like the Phantom I, there are two Phantom I models: a 95dB and a 98dB, the latter of which is more powerful and sounds better. Compared to the Phantom I, each Phantom II is about half the size.
Right now, Devialet is running a sale on certified refurbished versions of some of its older Phantom speakers, as well as the Mania, its only portable speaker (think of it as a higher-end version of Sonos's Move 2), which it still sells. It's a great chance to snag one of these normally very expensive wireless speakers for way less.
The deals run from August 27 through August 31st. Devialet's newest Phantom Ultimate speakers are not included in the sale.
