Rumors of OnePlus's untimely demise may be greatly exaggerated

A report claiming technology brand OnePlus is being "dismantled" has appeared online , with references to poor sales performance and office closures affecting its future, and all despite financial efforts by Oppo to keep the company afloat.

However, according to OnePlus, buyers should not be concerned.

Surprisingly, the report did not initially include a statement on the allegations from OnePlus. Android Police subsequently contacted OnePlus, asking for comment on the current situation, and if there was any truth to the report.

In an emailed statement, OnePlus said:

Existing business operations for OnePlus Europe continue to proceed as normal. All users' after-sales support, software updates, and rights commitments are fully guaranteed.

This joins a similar statement sent by OnePlus India's CEO Robin Lui, which was published on his own X account, and reposted by the OnePlus India account. Liu calls the rumors circulating "misinformation," and that any reports claiming OnePlus India is closing down are "false."

OnePlus USA responded directly to the original report with the same quote provided to Android Police from OnePlus Europe.

OnePlus releases and performance

The report comes soon after a rash of new device releases from OnePlus. The OnePlus 15 arrived at the end of 2025, and less than a year after the excellent OnePlus 13.

It was then joined by the OnePlus 15R , the OnePlus Pad Go 2 tablet, and the OnePlus Watch Lite smartwatch. In Asia, OnePlus also launched models including the OnePlus Ace 6 and OnePlus Turbo 6.

Before the OnePlus 15's announcement, the brand parted ways with camera partner Hasselblad, and then launched its own camera imaging platform called the DetailMax Engine .

It has been a busy few months, and market analyst at IDC Francisco Jeronimo posted to Threads to provide some background on OnePlus's recent performance, saying:

There is likely a strategic rationale behind [the report, if true], as Oppo is the leading brand within the BBK group, but OnePlus sold over 13m phones in 2024 and generated $5B in revenues. The numbers were down but it shipped more than Google. In the first three quarters of 2025, sales declined by 17%, yet OnePlus still holds 1% market share.

A report from Counterpoint Research showed a 2% increase in global smartphone shipments in 2025 compared to 2024, but noted Oppo had a -4% decline in shipments, and was the only brand in the top five to show a decline. It did not specifically mention OnePlus.

Is OnePlus safe?

Since publication, a note has been added to the original report stating AI was used in its creation. Although it's not clear how much AI influenced the final piece, this may have resulted in key statistics and other information being taken out of context, or even hallucinated.

OnePlus has clearly refuted the claims made in the report. However, this doesn't automatically mean everything is fine inside OnePlus, and there's always the chance the situation may change.

In January, Asus announced it would no longer make smartphones , and despite indicating it may only be on an extended hiatus, it shows how tough it is to survive in today's highly competitive smartphone market.
