The weirdest camera in Nikon's lineup has just received a small firmware update. If you're a Nikon Coolpix P1100 owner you can benefit from firmware update version 1.1 , which Nikon says fixes the following two issues:
-
Camera stops responding when adjusting zoom during burst photography (rare).
-
Some timestamps in metadata of video files differ from actual date and time of recording.
As always, it's worth making sure you know how to update your Nikon camera's firmware before performing the update. While issues are rare, you may also wish to wait a week or two to ensure that there are no problems with the update before updating your camera.
What is it? Nikon Coolpix P1100

The Nikon Coolpix P1100 is the only bridge camera in Nikon's current lineup – and beyond its predecessor, the Nikon Coolpix P1000 , there really isn't anything else quite like it. The camera's main selling point is its humongous 125x optical zoom, which equates to 24-3000mm in 35mm terms.
It's built around a 1/2.3-in CMOS sensor and, while it doesn't deliver the very best image quality in the world, nothing is going to get you closer to faraway subjects, so the trade-off is well worth it if you ask me.
This is the kind of camera that sports, wildlife and lunar hobbyists will have an absolute blast with. You're unlikely to capture award-winning images with it but, if your goal is simply to record what you see in the distance, you're unlikely to find a cheaper or more compact option.
Even if it is an absolute monster-sized bridge camera.
