Peak Design has reinvented the humble L-bracket – and you can now actually order one for your camera

Peak Design's clever new Field Bracket has officially moved beyond its hugely successful Kickstarter campaign and is now available to order, bringing its modular take on the traditional camera L-bracket to photographers using Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm and Leica cameras. The crowdfunding campaign ultimately raised $678,868, suggesting there is clearly plenty of appetite for an L-bracket that does a little more than simply help you turn your camera sideways.
At its heart, the Field Bracket is still designed to do exactly what you would expect from a good L-bracket, providing Arca-type mounting surfaces for quickly switching between horizontal and vertical tripod shooting. However, Peak Design has made the system modular, with a camera-specific baseplate machined from recycled aluminium and a removable upright section that can be attached, repositioned or removed without having to reach for a collection of tools.
One of its smartest features, though, is a hidden compartment inside the bracket designed to take Peak Design's optional Beacon Finder Tag. Think of it as an AirTag-style tracking system built directly into your camera setup, with the tag supporting both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub. The Beacon Finder Tag is IP67 rated, uses a replaceable CR2025 battery, and is rated for around six months of continuous use, which could make it a very reassuring addition for anyone travelling with expensive camera gear.
Compatibility is already impressively broad. Peak Design lists support for cameras including the Canon EOS R5, R5 II and R6 series, Nikon Z5 II, Z6 II, Z6 III, Z7 II and Z8, Fujifilm X-T5 and X100VI, Leica Q3, and a long list of Sony bodies including the A1, A1 II, A7 IV, A7R V, A7C II, A7CR and A9 III. Because each bracket is shaped around a particular body, however, it is worth checking Peak Design's compatibility list carefully before ordering.
The Peak Design Field Bracket is priced at $149.95 at B&H, with listings currently available to preorder ahead of stock arriving. It certainly isn't the cheapest L-bracket around, but this feels like much more than a simple piece of metal screwed to the bottom of your camera. Between the modular design, portrait and landscape tripod mounting, optional tracking, and the wider Peak Design accessory ecosystem, the Field Bracket could be one of those accessories that ends up staying attached to your camera far longer than you originally expected.
