You Can't Take Energizer's New Laptop on an Airplane

Avenir Telecom, designer and distributor of Energizer-powered hardware, has unveiled a laptop that, while portable, likely won't do much traveling anytime soon. It's called the Energizer EnergyBook Pro Ultra, and with the world's largest laptop battery tucked inside, it can't be taken on commercial flights.

According to The Verge , the laptop has a massive, 192Wh lithium-polymer battery—much more than the FAA's 160Wh limit for passenger aircraft. Even those batteries require air carrier approval, which is why most laptop manufacturers limit their devices to 100Wh batteries, which can fly whenever. These limitations make the Energizer EnergyBook Pro Ultra a ground-level laptop.

For users who don't tend to fly with a laptop anyway, the Energizer EnergyBook Pro Ultra promises impressive endurance. Avenir Telecom says the laptop can run for up to 28 hours during intensive office work or remain on standby for seven days. Gaming and graphic design work reportedly gets around 11 hours of use.

Other hardware specs include an 18-inch, 1,920-by-1,200 display, an AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Connectivity includes USB-C, USB 3.0, HDMI, SD card reader, and headphone jack. The reported starting price is €449 ($523), though this may apply to the smaller models in the lineup: the Energizer EnergyBook Pro 15 and EnergyBook Pro XL 18.

A release date for the Energizer laptop lineup has not yet been made public.
