Dell 14S Unveiled: Another Full-Metal Challenger to the MacBook Neo
At the IFA 2026 trade show in Berlin, Dell unveiled another semi-high-end budget laptop aimed squarely at the Apple MacBook Neo . Positioned as an even more accessible, everyday alternative to the more premium Dell XPS 13 , the new Dell 14S (2026) promises to deliver a deluxe feel, expressive color options, and reliable all-day performance for students and families when it launches this fall.
Sleek Design, Cool Colors, and Serious Stamina
The Dell 14S follows a trend we're happy to see in newer budget laptops, skipping the traditional plastic chassis in favor of an all-aluminum build that measures just over half an inch thick and weighs 2.5 pounds. That's portable enough for students and mainstream users who don't want to be weighed down or sacrifice productivity, video playback, and online access.
Adding a dash of personal style to the laptop, the Dell 14S comes in four distinct color options: Linen (silver), Dusty Rose (pink), Washed Denim (blue), and Velvet Green.
The other key value play on this portable system is stamina. Dell promises up to 21 hours of continuous Netflix video streaming and up to 27 hours of local video playback. Obviously, we'll see how this plays out when we get a chance to test and review the system.
Still, Dell has one extra cool trick up its sleeve for battery endurance: An optional high-energy-density battery is engineered to run cool under heavy workloads, retain capacity over time, and deliver plenty of power while maintaining a slim, lightweight form factor.
High-Refresh Displays and Intel Series 3 Power
The Dell 14S runs on Intel Core 5 and Core 7 Series 3 " Wildcat Lake " processors paired with Intel integrated graphics. That's a bummer for gamers, but it's what's expected for an affordable, general-use system. The machine promises multitasking across tabs, applications, and video calls without significant performance drops.
Unlike the MacBook Neo's repurposed phone processor, those Intel processors are the real deal, providing not only a full Windows experience but also driving performance for multitasking and everyday use.
The only real limitations we're expecting are memory and storage, with the announcement citing a model equipped with 8GB of memory and 256GB of SSD storage. We expect this to be the most affordable configuration of the system, since anything less would be criticized as inadequate for basic use.
The front of the device features a 16:10 aspect ratio display available in options: a lower-resolution panel with a speedy 120Hz refresh rate, or a more energy-efficient 2K 60Hz panel. No word on touch-screen availability, which leaves me thinking it won't have one.
Hybrid learners and remote workers will also take heart that the laptop includes a 1080p full HD webcam, dual-array far-field microphones, and stereo speakers specifically tuned for Zoom and Microsoft Teams video calls. The port selection seems completely practical, featuring two USB-C ports with power delivery (positioned to let you charge the laptop from either side), along with an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless networking.
Pricing and Availability: An Affordable Fall Release
As of this writing, Dell tells us that the 14S will roll out later this fall, selling in North America and global markets. Official pricing has not been announced, but Dell says the system complements the XPS 13 (which starts at $699) and is accessible to young adults globally. That sounds like a promise to keep the device affordable and accessible for students while competing with budget options across the market.
Given the recent price increase to the Apple MacBook Neo (from $599 to $699), and the similarly priced Dell XPS 13, we suspect that the Dell 14S will also come in at that same $699 for the most basic model, with minor upgrades in the form of the higher display resolution, the faster screen refresh rate, the high-energy density battery, and the boosted processor, memory, and storage options.
In any case, additional details, such as pricing, will be announced closer to the laptop's release this fall. Like all the rest of these affordable, semi-premium laptops cropping up, we plan to fully test one of them, too.
