Framework Hikes RAM Prices for Third Time, Warns of More Increases

Framework has raised RAM prices for the third time in recent months and has warned customers of additional cost increases for SSDs and even CPUs. The company says these changes stem from supplier price increases driven by surging demand for memory in AI data centers.

The DIY-friendly PC brand says it prices memory as close as possible to its weighted-average purchase cost rather than using steep markups, and it plans to lower prices again if component costs drop. (It said the same in December, when memory price increases appeared imminent .) DDR5 modules in its configurations have climbed into a range of roughly $13 to $18 per gigabyte. The company has also started repricing some SSDs after running through earlier, cheaper inventory. At the same time, Framework warns that it is running low on some Intel processors, which could force CPU price increases or configuration changes if supply stays tight.

In a blog post from December, Framework told customers that in many regions, it may be cheaper to buy third‑party RAM or SSDs from retailers and use those parts instead of its own modules.

"...if you are able to find a deal on lower-priced modules, we encourage you to bring your own memory when purchasing a Framework Laptop DIY Edition," the post reads. "As always, we also offer the option to buy a DIY Edition laptop with no memory or storage included, letting you re-use modules you have or find deals where you can."
