Google to Unleash Native Android and iOS Quick Share Integrations

Google announced a Quick Share SDK at this year's Android Dev Summit and plans to release it in the first half of 2027. The SDK will allow developers to add Quick Share directly to Android and iOS apps, letting users share files without leaving the app they use.
Quick Share currently uses a full-screen share sheet interface. The new SDK will bring a Quick Share bottom sheet inside a supported app. Users can select files, view a preview, and start sharing within the app. Google says the SDK will support Tap to Share , end-to-end encryption for transfers over local networks, and Wi-Fi Direct where devices support it.
Because Quick Share transfers rely on local device connections, they work offline and don't require developers to build separate cloud transfer infrastructure, which would add about 20 lines of code. The function also avoids image compression, which is a pain point in Android-to-iPhone picture sharing. Quick Share already works with Apple's AirDrop, but now iPhone users can send and receive via Quick Share.
