Microsoft has released a configuration update to fix a known problem that has been affecting Windows Update on quite a few Windows 11 systems. The update, KB5062324, is for Windows 11 version 24H2 PCs that have not yet installed the May non-security preview update or any newer ones.

According to a Microsoft support document, this update addresses an issue that can cause the scan for Windows updates to stop responding. The company says restarting Windows may help complete the scan, but the permanent solution is found in the May Windows non-security preview update and later releases. Microsoft recommends that users install the latest available update for their device, as reported by Bleeping Computer.

To get the KB5062324 update, users should go into Settings, select Windows Update, and turn on the option to get the latest updates as soon as they are available. After a restart, checking for updates again should make it visible. However, as the rollout is gradual, it may take more than one attempt before the update is available.

In May, Microsoft announced plans for a new platform to manage updates . This platform will use the existing Windows Update system. This will give users a simpler way to update all software on their PCs, including apps, drivers, and system components, all in one place.
