Apple just keeps on knocking it out of the park with hardware releases. This time, it's the new iPad Mini , the first refresh of the small tablet in several years. As with many of their other recent announcements, the new Mini is all about Apple Intelligence, the resource-hungry iOS update that promises tons of cool features that streamline your experience, make your photos and videos look better, and more.
The new iPad Mini models just went up for pre-order, with shipping dates set for October 23rd. Here's how to get your hands on one, and even save money.
Here's what you need to know about the new iPad Mini: it runs off of the A17 processor, which has a six-core CPU and five-core GPU for boosted speeds and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. It's significantly more capable than the 6th generation Mini, which released back in 2021. It charges through USB-C, like all of Apple's recent releases, and supports Wi-Fi 6E for faster downloads. It will also ship with iPadOS 18, built around the new Apple Intelligence AI. This makes Siri more useful and gives you access to photo editing, writing assistance and other tools. Read our full rundown here . All models ship on October 23, but you can pre-order them now.
Above is the lowest-priced configuration for the new iPad Mini (Wi-Fi, 128GB of internal storage), but others are available:
iPad Mini pre-orders are also up at Best Buy . They offer the option to trade in an earlier tablet model for a discount. If you have a last-generation Mini or tablet of comparable value, you can get as much as $260 off your pre-order.
You can also pre-order the new iPad Mini from Apple .
Not ready to upgrade quite yet? We've got some solid offers on older-generation iPads.
2021's base-model iPad got an Editors' Choice award from us, and in our review we said that it "performs better than pricier Android competitors, has a nice display well-suited for work and play, and will receive OS updates for years to come." With a bright and clear screen, solid front-facing camera for FaceTime calls, and the competent A13 Bionic CPU, it's a tremendous value at over $100 off. The 32.4-watt-hour battery will keep you computing all day without a charge.
We had tons of praise for the sixth-generation Mini when it was released, saying that it "delivers Pro-level power in a smaller size that's better for reading, taking notes, and slipping in a jacket pocket," in our review . With an upgraded A15 chipset, a larger screen than the last generation, USB-C charging, and support for the second-generation Apple Pencil, it's a great value even with a new model on the market. The dual speakers sound great, and battery life is solid. A price drop of $120 is very welcome.
It's a little surprising to see a price drop on the M4-powered iPad Pro, as it just hit store shelves earlier this year. We're not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, though, because this is one of the absolute best tablets on the market for creatives. In our review , we bestowed an Editors' Choice award on the Pro, saying that it was "an impressive piece of hardware, with a new OLED display, a next-generation M4 processor, revised cameras, and a fresh selection of accessories." If you do processor-intensive tasks like music creation or video editing , this is the iPad you need.
