But we don't mind because thankfully, many of the brand's products are rock solid—and this is especially true when it comes to its gaming laptops . They often make headlines with star-studded critical reviews, packed with powerful hardware and quality features across varying price points.
Since there is a extensive lineup of models available, picking the right model can be overwhelming. We took a deeper look at GPUs, CPUs, storage, refresh rates, and features of some of the most popular rigs from the brand, and even tested some ourselves. What to Consider
GPU
Your laptop optimizes a game's graphics with a GPU, or graphics card, and this hardware is arguably the most important component of a gaming laptop. Today's games have developed stunning detail and cinematic features, so having a quality GPU is a must. AMD Ryzen and Nvidia GeFore are the top two brands, and we recommend at minimum a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon 6700M for your Asus gaming laptop.
Nvidia is widely considered the industry leader for ray tracing performance, which is responsible for generating realistic, vivid light and lighting effects in games. AMD's cards options also offer this at lower levels, but for casual or occasional gamers, an AMD card will do just fine.

Processor (CPU)
Intel Core processors are one of the most popular examples of CPUs that perform well for gaming. Many of the gaming laptops you see today come with the Core i7 or later. This high-quality hardware can cost a pretty penny depending on the device it's paired with, but it's built for compatibility with the latest games while also taking on other tasks simultaneously.
AMD Ryzen is another common CPU found in gaming laptops, and is typically a more budget-friendly chipset. However, this processor can still multitask, game, and stream with the best of them. The AMD Ryzen 9 offers exceptional performance and efficiency, while the Ryzen 7 is better for mid-range gaming.
RAM
RAM, or random access memory, is the space a computer has to store temporary data like your operating system and programs. The higher the RAM, the faster your laptop can access that temporary data. Most great gaming laptops come with at least 16GB of RAM. This should allow you to run background applications without slowing gameplay.
Display Resolution
Your next gaming laptop should have a quality display, so you can see sharp details and vibrant colors. A 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution will perform well on nearly any laptop. Higher resolutions, like 2560 x 1440, requires more powerful hardware to perform smoothly. All of our options on this list have at least 1920 x 1080 resolution, with some extending into the 2880 x 1800 pixels range.

The display refresh rate, measured in Hertz (Hz), is a major differentiating factor between gaming and non-gaming computers. This number indicates how many times per second the display can update with a new image on the screen. The higher the number, the smoother your gaming experience will be. Plus, it makes web browsing and working on documents a more seamless process. We recommend a laptop capable of at least a 120-Hz refresh rate.

ROG Strix Scar 16 Gaming Laptop (2024)
The newest version of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is one of the brand's latest, most balanced gaming laptops, earning critical and user acclaim for its consistent performance and sharp display.
The LED display has a refresh rate of 240 Hz, practically eliminating blurriness and choppy imagery. It has a powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU that fuels a robust graphic performance.
The Intel Core i7 processor isn't the most powerful in the brand line (an i9 would offer an even smoother experience), but it can keep up with all of your streaming and gaming needs. Not to mention, the design is aesthetically pleasing: it's semi-transparent plastic is reminiscent of a Game Boy Color .
A common problem with gaming laptops is its weight, and the ROG Strix 16 suffers from this drawback. It weighs nearly 6 pounds, and comes with a hefty 2.5-pound power brick. That weight can add up when you're gaming on the go, but it also gives it—according to several critics—up to 7 hours of battery life while gaming.
TUF Dash F15 Gaming Laptop (2023)
Spending thousands of dollars on a new gaming laptop might not align with everyone's budget, but those trying to play and save can grab Asus's TUF Dash F15 without compromising much performance. The machine usually hovers around $1,200 or less, and the Dash F15 is a great example of how the bare essentials can still deliver.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, mid-range CPU, 1080p resolution, and 144Hz refresh rate combined render up some very smooth gameplay. Like Asus' other top-tier laptops, the Dash 15 has excellent battery life, lasting an entire day of browsing or a little over an hour of intense gaming. The computer also comes with two internal fans to prevent overheating with extended use.
While the inside may feature more mid-range hardware and the chassis relies more on plastic, the price more than makes up for the Dash F15's shortcomings. TUF A14 Gaming Laptop
Sometimes you don't need a high-end machine for everyday tasks–just a well-rounded device that can do it all. We recommend the TUF A14 as a great companion for school, work, and play.
During testing, I first downloaded Steam to the desktop to get access to its game library, and installed a few different free games like Stumble Guys and Asphalt Legends Unite. Both were equally as enjoyable to play because I experienced a fast refresh rate, crisp imagery, and a quality display. Even just browsing the internet was quick and efficient.
The computer itself is also incredibly lightweight at only a little over 3 pounds, so you can game and work virtually anywhere. Like other Asus models, the backlit keyboard is also a nice touch for a more affordable gaming laptop.
The TUF A14 comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor, dedicated Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, and dual fans to keep things cool. This machine offers horsepower, ample battery life, and solid hardware for the average gamer, all packed into a device that's less than $1400.

ROG Zephyrus G15 Ultra Slim Gaming Laptop
Out of the Asus laptop's lineup, the ROG Zephyrus G15 is the easiest to recommend as it strikes a near-perfect balance between design, performance, and cost.
The combination of its Ryzen 9 5900HS CPU and RTX 3070 GPU achieves incredible performance on graphically intense games. One of our testers tried this device with Starfield , and found that the machine can run at max settings without issue. Pair this with a 15.6-inch screen and you can really immerse yourself into another world.
The G15's design is one of our favorites, too. The backlit keyboard, touchpad, and speakers are all excellent, especially compared to other options from more budget brands like Lenovo or Acer.
One of the most impressive features of the G15 might be its stellar battery life. It can cruise through an entire workday on just one charge, or crank out about an hour and a half of intense gaming unplugged.
The only real drawback is that, like many Asus gaming laptops, the G15 lacks a webcam, so it might not be the most practical device for streamers.
ROG Flow Z13 Convertible Gaming Laptop (2023)
With PCs, consoles, and handhelds all over the market, convertible tablets aren't commonly associated with gaming. But the Asus ROG Flow Z13 is a unique example of a gaming-forward one done right.
The tablet comes with a powerful Intel Core i9 processor, which is a step up to even some of the latest models on this list. Add in the GeForce RTX 4050, and you've got a quality CPU and GPU in a compact device. And even with a smaller form factor, you still get internal fans to move air around.
The Flow Z13 comes with plenty of RAM and storage to handle massive gaming libraries and data dumps, and has a 165 Hz refresh rate to smoothly run popular FPS games like Call of Duty and Halo , even at max settings.
For even more accessibility, the tablet offers touch screen controls, a keyboard, and active stylus support. Though the battery life and some of the hardware can't entirely compete with full-sized laptops, they can still hold their own after adjusting your in-game graphics settings.
ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptop
The ROG Zephyrus G14 is another compact form factor that's worth considering. Since it's initial release in 2020, this laptop received updates that made waves with incredible battery life, excellent performance, and relatively affordable price point.
The latest version of the Zephyrus G14 has a robust CPU and dedicated GPU, making it one of Asus's top compact gaming laptops. It has a slower refresh rate of 120 Hz, but offers 2880 x 1800 resolution, 14-inch screen, and OLED display so you can see even the most minute details.
Even with a sleek, aluminum chassis, the machine is less than an inch thick and only weighs a little over 3 pounds (not including the power brick). The battery life is also very impressive, as it can last for up to 10 hours off of a single charge–though this number varies depending on the applications you run or how long you're gaming.
If you're running intense games, there are internal fans to reduce CPU temperatures by up to 13 degrees to keep up with performance.
ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 Gaming Laptop (2022)
Remember the MacBook touch bar? You can get the same functionality with Asus's ScreenPad Plus on the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, but even better. This laptop is equipped with a 14-inch 4K secondary touchscreen display that provides a convenient menu of shortcuts whenever you need it. making streaming, gaming, and editing a more intuitive process.
In addition to this useful feature, the Zephyrus Duo 16 is also a powerful gaming machine thanks to an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H Mobile Processor, Nvidia GeForce graphics card, and 165 Hz refresh rate. It comes with a good amount of RAM and storage that can take on massive gaming libraries, too. With more than sufficient hardware, you can smoothly run popular games like the newest releases of Call of Duty or Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Some users say that the second screen influences the laptops processing power, causing it to stutter more often during demanding gameplay. But if you're a casual gamer or looking for a laptop that can compete against similar models for play and work capability, this might be your best bet.
