Wood May Rot, But This Bamboo SSD Always Stays Fresh
It's a strange combination, but Apacer has announced what it claims to be the world's first storage device to feature integrated aromatherapy: the AS712 Portable SSD with Essential Oil Diffuser. The 1TB portable SSD is made from sustainable materials like bamboo, recycled reservoir silt, PCR plastics, and metals, so you'll have a unique sensory experience every time you touch (and smell) it.
The AS712 lets users apply one or two drops of essential oil to either the bamboo surface or the included diffuser stone. Apacer says the residual heat generated by the SSD helps diffuse the scent without drawing extra power. This is allegedly a part of Apacer's sustainability work, as the design uses natural and recycled elements and recyclable kraft packaging.
The SSD uses a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface, which provides sequential read speeds of up to 1000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 900 MB/s. It supports Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS.
The AS712 SSD weighs 88.2 grams alone and 210 grams with the cradle, and comes with a USB-C cable, the diffuser stone, and a three-year limited warranty. Essential oils are not included, and the company warns against applying too much at once, as excessive oil could damage the product.
The company also says each bamboo SSD is unique, with natural variations in texture and tone, meaning individual units may differ from the shown product images.
