Worried About VRAM? Nvidia's New Pro Graphics Card Has 96GB of GDDR7

With all the talk about Nvidia not providing enough VRAM with its low-end RTX 50 cards , it certainly isn't having that problem at the top end. Alongside 32GB of GDDR7 in its flagship consumer RTX 5090, Nvidia has a monstrous professional version of the card with a ridiculous 96GB of ultra-fast error-correcting code (ECC) video memory. To go with that, the Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition also uses almost the full GB202 GPU, sporting a massive 24,064 CUDA cores. That makes the RTX 5090's 21,760 look quite pedestrian in comparison.

It doesn't stop there, either. The Pro 6000 also has more RT and tensor cores, too. While Nvidia doesn't provide the raw numbers, we can extrapolate them from the TFLOPS rating. Nvidia claims 380 TFLOPS of ray tracing performance on this card, 68 more than the RTX 5090. With that card's 170 RT cores, that would suggest the RTX Pro 6000 has around 210 RT cores. The RTX 5090 has 680 5th-generation tensor cores, while the RTX Pro 6000 has around 810.

It also has a higher boost clock of 2.6 GHz, as per PCGamer —200 MHz more than the RTX 5090. But all of that added hardware and power only increases the TDP to a maximum of 600W.

If the idea of running games directly from VRAM has you salivating at the possibilities, though, think again. Unfortunately, since it's designed for professionals conducting AI training, 3D modelling, and scientific research, the RTX Pro 6000 is priced at an eye-watering $8,500. That's enough to buy you four RTX 5090s at MSRP, or at least two of them at their post-launch inflated prices.

There's also the matter of drivers. Where the RTX 5090 is at least partially designed with gaming in mind, it has drivers specifically designed to accelerate that kind of performance. In comparison, the RTX Pro 6000 is designed for other tasks, so it has drivers optimized for those kinds of workloads. It would likely be underwhelming in gaming with such a driver set.

Now if someone could make the standard 5090 drivers work with it, we might have a killer benchmark card on our hands. Or at least in the hands of those paying close to $10,000 for the privilege.

In more realistic news, Nvidia is rumored to be working on Super variants of its RTX 50 series cards using enhanced 3GB GDDR7 modules. That could mean up to 24GB for the RTX 5080 Super, and even 18GB for the RTX 5070 Super. That's a lot better than the 8GB fitted to the low-end RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 .
