We Tested This Lenovo ThinkPad and Gave It 5 Stars—Now, It’s Marked Down $729 for Prime Day

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days have brought loads of discounts on various laptops and desktops, and I have already shared plenty of my favorite deals. With some discounts running at 20% and higher, it's an ideal time to snag a bargain on your next desktop , gaming PC , or MacBook . I've reviewed hundreds of PCs across my years at PCMag, so I can spot a sweet deal on a worthwhile system when I see one.

The current deal on the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition is one such sale I'd be remiss not to highlight. Not only is a 29% discount on a high-end laptop worth checking out in its own right, but this is one of PCMag's absolute favorite laptops of the year, earning a rare five-star rating and an Editors' Choice award. With this deal, the PC our reviewer called "the world's best laptop" is $729 off. (Note: The model for Prime Day sale is an upticked configuration with a healthy 2TB SSD, as opposed to the 512GB SSD on our $1,999 test model.)

As a ThinkPad, the X1 Carbon Gen 13 is naturally aimed more at professionals and business users, but really, anyone would enjoy using it. Its 14-inch screen and small footprint make it super-portable. It measures just 0.56 inches thick and weighs 2.17 pounds, which is markedly lighter than even the 13-inch MacBook Air .

The display is beautiful, too: Its gorgeous 2.8K OLED panel is a treat for work and entertainment. The keyboard is exceptionally comfortable, as we've come to expect from ThinkPads, and you'll stay connected thanks to a wide array of ports. A lack of SD or microSD card slots is a notable miss, but considering many 14- and 13-inch laptops only come with USB Type-C ports, the X1 Carbon still provides above-average connectivity with its USB Type-A and HDMI ports.

This is hardly a high-end workstation or gaming laptop in terms of raw power. However, its Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor is plenty peppy, helped by 32GB of memory. It's more than equipped for everyday and work use cases, only really short on graphics horsepower for gaming or visual workloads. 

At $1,820, its current discounted price, it's a steal for this class of system. Considering one of the few downsides to this system is its cost—typically reserved for executives and deep-pocketed shoppers—snagging it for well under $2,000, especially with the upgraded drive, is extremely appealing.
