Sorry, Those Nintendo Pikmin Videos Aren't Game Teasers

Nintendo confused fans this week by uploading to social media what many thought were teasers for either a new Pikmin game or work on the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie . Now, the brand has clarified that the videos are short films produced by its Nintendo Pictures studio and are independent of other projects.

The two videos, titled "Close to you" and released on Oct. 7 and 8, both feature an animated baby exploring a bedroom with multiple hints toward the iconography within Pikmin games. The second video was exclusively shared on the company's Nintendo Today smartphone app and featured Pikmin characters. Nintendo gave little context for why they were uploaded.

On X, Nintendo has now clarified that the videos are "the first short films created by Nintendo Pictures." The studio was previously known as Dynamo Pictures from 1991 to 2022, before it was acquired and renamed by Nintendo.

It has produced motion capture projects for video games alongside animated TV shows and even live-action films. Since becoming Nintendo Pictures, its work includes credits for character art on games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder , the recent Super Mario RPG remake, and others. It also worked on a series of three Pikmin short films back in 2014, around the release of the third game.

Perhaps the studio's weirdest credit is its recent work on PS5 exclusive title Death Stranding 2.

"Nintendo Pictures will continue to explore new creative possibilities through video content," Nintendo said on X.

It's unclear whether Nintendo Pictures will be working with animation studio Illumination on  The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,  set for release in April 2026.
