'The Blood of Dawnwalker' Sales Skyrocket After Glowing Reviews

September is officially here, and with that comes a stacked month for video games, all hoping to get out early and avoid the scary November video game industry phantom: Grand Theft Auto 6 . The first major release of September, The Blood of Dawnwalker , is out later this week, and the game's sales have been climbing drastically since reviews were released on Monday.

According to SteamDB , a database for sales, player counts, and more on Steam, The Blood of Dawnwalker is currently the best-selling paid game on Steam. Two free-to-play games make up the top three: Apex Legends and Counter-Strike 2 .

Another major game also releases this week on September 4, Onimusha: Way of the Sword , and despite reviewing slightly better than Dawnwalker , is selling less than that game, sitting at number 10 on the list.

The data from SteamDB does not include any console version sales of the game.

According to Metacritic , The Blood of Dawnwalker is currently sitting at an 83 metascore. Reviewers praised the game's writing, narrative, open world, and unique time management system. There was some criticism aimed at the game's limited combat options and technical performance.

In Men's Journal 's review of the game, I echoed those sentiments and also called it "the best vampire game ever made."

The Blood of Dawnwalker is the debut game from developer Rebel Wolves. Rebel Wolves is largely made up of former The Witcher 3 developers. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, co-director of The Witcher 3 , served as director of The Blood of Dawnwalker and is also the founder of Rebel Wolves.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-focused, dark fantasy vampire RPG in which players have 30 days and nights to craft their own journey for Coen as he works to save his family from a vampire threat while also dealing with his personal journey of life as a Dawnwalker–a vampire at night and a human during the day.

The Blood of Dawnwalker releases on September 3, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
