Crown of Hispania Brings Medieval Iberia To Steam Early Access September 22

Crown of Hispania , a grand strategy game from developer Regalis Studio, launches into Steam Early Access on September 22 for $19.99.

The game recently partnered with publisher indie.io ahead of launch, and invites players to rewrite the Reconquista from 1035 AD, the year Sancho III of Navarre's death splintered the Iberian Peninsula into rival Christian kingdoms and fractured Muslim taifas.

A Living Population Across 300 Provinces

Drawing inspiration from Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV , Crown of Hispania is built around deeper population simulation than either reference point, treating every character, culture, and religion as a living population that grows, migrates, and reacts dynamically to player decisions.

The map spans more than 300 hand-built provinces modeled on the peninsula's real terrain, giving the setting a level of geographic specificity the grand strategy genre rarely applies to 11th-century Iberia.

Armies move freely across the map without province restrictions, enabling flanking and positioning strategies closer to actual troop movement than the turn-based province hopping common to the genre.

The developers describe the AI as designed to challenge rather than accommodate, aiming to force players to earn territory rather than steadily expand against passive opposition.

A Public Roadmap Ahead of Full Release

Regalis Studio considers its early access launch as its major milestone for its 2026 roadmap for Crown of Hispania .Regalis Studio, indie.io

Players take on the role of a noble of the era, working through battlefield command, council politics, and conspiracy, with paths ranging from retaking Toledo and Granada for Christendom to brokering a fragile coexistence with neighboring kingdoms instead.

A dedicated engagement system aims to make individual battles feel more grounded and immersive than abstracted combat resolution.

Crown of Hispania will launch with a public roadmap and regular content updates shaped directly by player feedback, following a model similar to other long-tail grand strategy Early Access releases.

A free demo is available now on Steam , letting players take control of Castilla for a 10-year run ahead of the full Early Access launch on September 22.
