My Eyes! Microsoft to Open Preorders for Translucent Green Anniversary Xbox

Microsoft is opening preorders for its translucent and very green Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition celebrates the upcoming 25-year anniversary of the Xbox console. First announced in June, the $899 console drops the opaque chassis for a semi-transparent green shell that reveals the interior components. 

The "translucent OG Green" design is meant to give owners a way to "witness" how Xbox's technology has evolved over the past 25 years. The look also brings back the transparent plastic design aesthetic that was more popular in the late 90s and early 2000s, for example, the Game Boy Advance from 2001.  

The bad news, though, is that the console is more expensive than a typical Xbox, as some gamers feared. The special-edition X25 model will cost $899, up from $799 for the standard 1TB disc-drive model. That said, the special edition model includes the new Halo: Campaign Evolved remake as a free download, and a translucent green controller too. 

Microsoft says the Xbox 25th anniversary collection will officially launch on Nov. 13, but the company is giving some fans the option to preorder it today via an email invite. 

Microsoft then plans to open preorders to all tomorrow, Aug. 27, starting at 7 a.m. PST. "All players in select markets can visit the Xbox site or participating retailers for an opportunity to preorder while supplies last," the company says. For now, the Xbox site lets you sign up for an email notification that'll let you know when the special-edition console becomes available. 

Consumers can also preorder the transparent green controller separately for $79.99 ahead of its Oct. 20 launch. If you're a fan of the translucent green look, Microsoft has also partnered with Razer to create similar designs for a keyboard and mouse.
