Into the Fire Debuts New Trailer, Opens Second Round of Steam Playtests
Starward Industries released a new trailer for Into the Fire and opened a fresh round of Steam playtests as part of the Steam PvE Survival Crafting Fest .
The studio, known for narrative sci-fi adventure The Invincible , is using the playtest to expand its single-player extraction survival game with animal rescue, new gear, and story-driven quests ahead of a full release.
Rescue Over Competition
Into the Fire is set on a world upended by a mysterious volcanic cataclysm, blending extraction-game tension with survival mechanics, base building, crafting, and exploration. Rather than competing against other players for loot, the core objective is saving as many lives as possible, a structural choice that sets it apart from most extraction games built around player-versus-player conflict.
The latest playtest build adds animal rescue alongside new gadgets and weapons, plus lore-driven quests that reveal more about the island's history. Starward Industries Marketing and Business Development Manager Michał Obłoj said the goal is making "every expedition feel dangerous but also meaningful," framing each playtest as a chance to develop the game's systems directly alongside the people playing it.
What's in the Playtest
Missions are shaped by evolving volcanic activity, with lava flows, ash storms, and pyroclastic waves capable of altering routes and hazards mid-expedition.
Players search for survivors and animals, gather resources, and race back to camp before a disaster cuts off the escape route, with every successful rescue affecting the settlement's growth over time.
The specialized gear on offer includes suppressant shotguns, extinguisher pistols, pressure bombs, water hoses, and seismic tools, all built for navigating fires and confronting fire-born entities drawn from the island's mix of natural volcanic hazards and supernatural, myth-inspired threats.
The playtest is live on Steam now through Monday, and is open to anyone who signs up. Into the Fire is currently in development for PC with no confirmed release date yet, though players can wishlist the game to follow its progress.
