FreeStyle Football 2 's Prime Open Beta is live now, following a new trailer and pre-download window JOYCITY opened ahead of the server going live September 4. The character-driven 5v5 soccer game is also playable at PAX West 2026 , running through September 7 in Seattle.
Cross-Play Across PC and Consoles
The Prime Open Beta is available through Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation with full cross-play between PC and consoles, letting players on any platform match against each other directly. Pre-download access opened ahead of the server going live, letting players jump in immediately once the beta launched September 4.
This beta introduces several additions shaped by feedback from earlier tests, including a new German defender named Lena who can play wing-back or full-back, a new playable location in Hamburg, and the opening chapters of the game's first single-player Story Mode, added directly in response to player requests for solo content.
Friendly Matches let players create custom rooms for 5v5 games outside ranked play, alongside a new Goal Replay system and customizable keyboard controls.
Lena Joins the Roster With Her Own Backstory
Lena is introduced as a former professional soccer player and member of a celebrated German motorbike-racing family. After growing up racing alongside her twin sister Greta, she found that soccer offered a different kind of connection built on cooperation rather than rivalry.
Her return to the field follows a career derailed by false doping allegations, giving the character roster another layer of the personality-driven backstories FreeStyle Football 2 has built its identity around since its original 2025 announcement.
JOYCITY will have six gameplay stations set up at Booth #409 on Level 4 of the Seattle Convention Center during PAX West, running September 4 through 7, letting attendees play with and against each other or AI-controlled opponents.
Attendees who complete booth missions by playing and wishlisting FreeStyle Football 2 on Steam can receive merchandise, including a custom T-shirt featuring a character of their choice, while supplies last.
