Hollow Knight: Silksong's release date is just two weeks away

Horent jumps in key art for Hollow Knight: Silksong

The day has finally come. We got a new trailer for the long-awaited indie game Hollow Knight: Silksong and a firm release date for it as well. Its launch is just two weeks away.

This announcement closes the door on one of the most requested announcements from nearly every game showcase for the past five years. Team Cherry revealed that date all on its own, though, as the game was playable at Gamescom .

When will Hollow Knight: Silksong be released?

It's out in September

The latest trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong confirms a release date of September 4. It will be released for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 and also be part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog from the day it launches.

It's a bit surprising that the game is going to be out two weeks from today, launching around titles like Hell is Us and Cronos: The New Dawn. Developer Team Cherry doesn't need to be too worried about all of that competition, though, as Hollow Knight: Silksong is one of the most wishlisted games on Steam and one of the most widely anticipated video games that's not Grand Theft Auto VI or Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

While it may surprise you to learn just how anticipated this game is, Hollow Knight: Silksong gained its notoriety and reputation due to its infrequent appearances since it was revealed at E3 2019. This sequel to a beloved Metroidvania game was even playable at that expo, but in the following years, it only appeared at one Xbox Games Showcase in 2022. In the chat of almost every other showcase, indie or AAA-focused, over that time, you'd see the live chat swarming with demands for Hollow Knight: Silksong to show up.

It never really did until this year, when it made brief appearances during the Nintendo Direct unveiling the Switch, the ROG Xbox Ally X segment of this year's Xbox Games Showcase, and Gamescom Opening Night Live . This morning, Team Cherry released a "special announcement" video for the game, confirming the release date.

It's a pretty straightforward trailer for the game, highlighting its beautiful animation and fluid combat. It does confirm that there are over 200 different enemies and 40 bosses that players can encounter over the course of the game, affirming the large scope of this game from a relatively small development team.

Although I'm only a casual fan of the original Hollow Knight, I have been eagerly anticipating the game more and more as I've heard about it this year. Seeing the game in action once again, it looks absolutely amazing in a year that has already been very kind to 2D platformer fans . It's hard to believe I'll be going hands-on with it finally just two weeks from today.
