Maneater 2 Announced, Sends The Shark To Neptune's Kingdom In 2027
Maneater 2 is officially in development. Tripwire Interactive and co-developer Demiurge Studios revealed the sequel during PlayStation's September 3 State of Play , closing out five years of speculation over where the follow-up had gone .
The game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2027, with Tripwire self-publishing digitally and PLAION handling physical retail distribution.
A Luxury Theme Park Becomes the Shark's New Hunting Ground
Maneater 2 takes place during an invite-only preview event for Neptune's Kingdom, an ultra-luxury private island theme park where the splendor of the Roman Empire lives on, at least for now. Players once again control a bull shark, eating, exploring, and evolving through the park's highly engineered marine ecosystem while working to escape before disaster strikes.
Disgraced reality TV host Trip Westhaven, voiced by Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live, Rick and Morty, Archer), returns as narrator, offering one-sided commentary throughout the shark's rampage.
The reveal trailer showed the shark tearing through the park's various attractions, fighting orcas and piranhas, jumping between bar counters, scaring guests, and taking on a massive crab along the way.
Neptune's Kingdom is built around a network of artificial pools, water slides, and state-of-the-art aquariums, giving the sequel considerably more varied terrain to explore than the original's Gulf Coast setting.
A Sequel Five Years in the Making
Tripwire CEO Matt LoPilato said the response to the original made it clear players were "hungry for more," pointing to the studio's excitement at finally delivering a true sequel alongside Demiurge. Demiurge Studios CEO Kurt Reiner separately said the team is looking to build on the original's power fantasy of ruling open waters as an apex predator.
The 2020 original and its Truth Quest DLC have together drawn more than 20 million players worldwide.
With Maneater 2 now confirmed, players can add the game to their wishlists across applicable digital storefronts ahead of its 2027 launch. The game has not yet been rated but anticipates an ESRB rating of M for Mature and a PEGI 18+ rating.
Tripwire hasn't detailed a specific release date or how far the sequel's RPG systems will expand beyond the original, though the studio has said more information will follow in the months ahead.
