Metro 2039 release date lands ahead of Tomb Raider, God of War Laufey, Persona 4, and Fable in an increasingly crowded February

As part of today's PlayStation State of Play, we got a new Metro 2039 trailer showcasing gameplay on PS5 Pro. The trailer confirmed that the apocalyptic FPS sequel is set to launch on February 4, 2027. We already knew the game was set for a February launch window, but the exact date will certainly help if you're planning your gaming time in an already stacked month.

That February 4 launch puts Metro 2039 out just ahead of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on February 12, God of War Laufey on February 16, Persona 4 Revival on February 18, and Fable on February 23. Woo, boy. As if the pre-GTA 6 rush we're entering into wasn't a big enough feast.

Metro 2039 looks impressive enough to stand out even in that crowd, however. The PS5 Pro footage in the trailer below looks absolutely incredible on a purely visual level, which is par for the course for developer 4A Games. The action looks pretty familiar in this footage, but there's plenty of depth that doesn't necessarily show in a three-minute demo, as evidenced by our hours of Metro 2039 hands-on time.

Just as with the previous Metro games, 4A Games is building 2039 on its own internal engine. "For Metro 2039, we've built on everything we've learned in years since to deliver the best-looking Metro to date," brand boss Robbie Cooke says in a PlayStation Blog post . "and of course we're delighted to confirm that both PS5 and PS5 Pro players will be able to experience Metro 2039 with ray tracing, including at a smooth 60fps with a dedicated Performance Mode."

Here's hoping we can all find the time to actually play it this February.
