Metro 2039 Sets February 4 Release Date, Debuts PS5 Pro Gameplay

Metro 2039 now has a confirmed release date. 4A Games and Deep Silver announced during PlayStation's September 3 State of Play that the game launches February 4, 2027, accompanied by the first console gameplay footage, captured exclusively on PlayStation 5 Pro.
First Console Gameplay Shows the Stranger in Moscow's Ruins
The new footage picks up just after the protagonist, the Stranger, has left the dark confines of the Metro tunnels and ventured onto the thawing, post-apocalyptic surface of Moscow. The Stranger is introduced as a former Spartan warrior with a dark past, brutal and adaptable enough to be mistaken for a hero despite being far from one.
In the gameplay shown, he's searching for a Novoreich fortress hidden inside a nearby dam, with every step on the surface carrying real risk. The sequence also includes a detour into an abandoned dental clinic that ends in a mutant encounter, along with a glimpse of a UV-emitting gadget whose purpose hasn't been explained yet.
Two pieces of new equipment were confirmed alongside the trailer: the Shatun, a stealth weapon, and breaching charges, both suggesting more tactical options than previous entries in the series offered.
Built Around PS5 Pro From the Ground Up
The gameplay was captured running in Performance Mode on PS5 Pro at 60 FPS with ray tracing enabled, and Deep Silver confirmed that the same 60 FPS Performance Mode with ray tracing will be available at launch across PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X.
This follows an earlier gameplay trailer at gamescom 2026's Opening Night Live , which introduced the Stranger and the unified Novoreich faction he must navigate.
4A Games, founded in Kyiv and now headquartered in Malta, continues development with the majority of its team working from Ukraine, and the studio has publicly committed to supporting Ukraine through the United24 initiative.
This State of Play marked the studio's first appearance at one of Sony's flagship showcases, a notable step up in visibility for a team that has quietly built one of the genre's most atmospheric shooter franchises.
Metro 2039 launches simultaneously across all platforms on February 4, 2027.
