Mexican Ninja Slices Onto Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S On August 20

Nuevo Tokyo has a new problem, and it swaggers.

Mexican Ninja , a fast, over-the-top 2.5D roguelike beat 'em up from Bogota-based studio Madbricks and publisher Amber Studio, has been confirmed for release on PC via Steam , PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 20.

A free demo is already live on Steam and has been pulling in a Very Positive reception, so curious players do not have to wait for launch day to see what the fuss is about.

What the heck is Mexican Ninja ?

Nuevo Tokyo is a chaotic city forged when Mexican cartels and Japanese Yakuza merged into a single ruling class known as the Narkuzas, and a band of outskirts rebels is plotting to take down the clan's five heads.

You play the title character, cutting through the streets in fast, precision-based combat where movement, positioning, and perfectly timed attacks decide every fight. The studio describes it as easy to pick up but with real depth for players chasing mastery.

Mexican Ninja Gameplay

Structurally, it is a roguelike through and through.

Every run shuffles the levels, throws out over-the-top duels, and hands out increasingly wild weapons, while training with a mentor figure called El Mero Mero Sensei unlocks new ninja skills between attempts.

Players can also gain the favor of Mexican-Japanese spirits to wield their powers, unleash signature "Mexican Jutsus" for crowd control, and unlock cosmetic apparel to look the part while doing it. According to Creative Director Dario Hoyo, the whole project is built around a specific feeling: getting knocked down mid-run and standing back up with even more swagger than before.

It is a distinctly irreverent take on a setting video games rarely explore this directly, filtered through dark comedy and satire rather than anything solemn.

With a release date locked in for August 20 and a free demo already available to test the combat firsthand, Mexican Ninja is shaping up to be one of the more attitude-heavy indie releases of the month.
