Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Reveals Elder Dragon Gundoraja, New Locale
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance got a new trailer during PlayStation's September 3 State of Play , revealing a new Elder Dragon called Gundoraja alongside the expansion's new sky-bound locale.
Capcom confirmed Ascendance is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2027, though a specific date hasn't been announced.
A New Threat Sets the Story in Motion
Ascendance picks up after the ending of the base Monster Hunter Wilds story, opening with the sudden, devastating appearance of the colossal Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung in the Forbidden Lands.
The Expedition Team is left largely powerless against the attack, and the resulting destruction leads to the construction of Madoi Stronghold, built specifically to prepare for Lao-Shan Lung's eventual return.
As the stronghold takes shape, the mists that have long obscured the skies above Wyveria begin to clear, revealing the Skybound Eyrie, a new region of floating islands high above the clouds.
The locale is home to ancient ruins and previously undiscovered wildlife, and hunters can use updrafts throughout the area to glide between the floating landmasses while riding their Seikret.
Gundoraja, Araketa, and the New Boost Bracer
Gundoraja headlines the expansion's new monster roster, a serpentine Elder Dragon with the ability to bend storms to its will, emerging from the dark clouds hanging over the Skybound Eyrie.
A second new monster, Araketa, is a pack-hunting flying wyvern capable of high-speed flight using powerful air currents released from its wings, with pack leaders using distinct calls to coordinate group movement.
Combat gets a new tool too, in the form of the Boost Bracer, equipment that works through the Hunter's Slinger to temporarily grant new attacks, combos, and mobility options across all 14 weapon types.
The expansion also brings Master Rank content to Monster Hunter Wilds for the first time, alongside returning characters like Nata, now older and supporting the Expedition Team alongside a Wudwud named Bangard.
