Nintendo Just Announced Two Directs For Next Week

Nintendo fans are about to get a lot of news about their favorite franchises going into the final stretch of 2026. The company announced today that there will be consecutive Nintendo Directs next week.

The first will be on September 8 at 7:00 am PT and will be dedicated entirely to celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda . It is expected that there will be a full set of announcements regarding the Ocarina of Time remake, such as trailers and a release date. It is also safe to assume there will be some other goodies related to the franchise to commemorate the occasion, perhaps more information on the movie coming out next year or an entirely new Zelda game that will come to Switch 2 after the Ocarina of Time remake.

The other Nintendo Direct the following day will be a general one for the rest of Nintendo's franchises heading into the holiday season. It's safe to assume any games that are coming out before Christmas or at the beginning of 2027 might be announced in this conference. It will air at 7:00 am PT on September 9 and last about 45 minutes.

Will there be a new Mario game announced finally? Fans are hotly anticipating the next 3D experience in the franchise as we reach almost nine years since Super Mario Odyssey came out on the Switch. This is one of the longest gaps in the history of the franchise between mainline games.

Nintendo also announced that all games discussed in the Direct will be Switch 2 games. This means that the original Switch era is unofficially over, with no new first-party software being released for it again. One of the last games Nintendo released on the console was Rhythm Heaven Groove this summer.

Nintendo fans should be excited and getting ready for some major announcements!
