'No Disc, No Buy': Digital Protests Continue Ahead of PlayStation's September State of Play
September's massive month of games is here, and on the heels of the release of The Blood of Dawnwalker , PlayStation is gearing up to show fans what it has in store for the rest of 2026 and even into 2027. While that is often an exciting time, the digital protests from fans over PlayStation killing games continue, and the live chat for the State of Play tomorrow is already full of angry fans.
The official PlayStation Blog officially announced the State of Play on August 31. The show will be broadcast live on YouTube at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT tomorrow, September 3. The show is expected to last for around one hour. Several messages in the YouTube live chat ahead of the show are viciously criticizing PlayStation's business decisions.
One user wrote, "no disc, no buy." Others are criticizing PlayStation's decision as "greed." Several others are stating they will be boycotting future PlayStation products.
Another user even wrote, "I hope developers stop making game versions for Paystation," mocking PlayStation's brand.
In addition to the live chat, the comment section of the official announcement on the PlayStation Blog is mostly filled with people protesting PlayStation's decision. Several online petitions have started using the phrase "no disc, no buy" as a sort of slogan for the movement.
On the official blog post, a fan wrote, "a bit difficult to be excited for this considering your abandonment of physical media from 2028 onwards."
PlayStation has faced widespread scrutiny for its decision to kill physical games in January 2028, and this will be the first big showcase for the company since that decision was announced.
It does not seem likely that PlayStation will respond to the protests in an official capacity at the State of Play.
