Stranded Deep 2 Revealed, Trades Pacific Islands For A Desert River

North Beach Games revealed Stranded Deep 2 with a first teaser trailer, and the game's Steam page is now live as part of Steam's PvE Survival Crafting Fest .

The sequel trades the original's Pacific Ocean setting for a desert wilderness built around an endless river, with original Stranded Deep co-creator Sam Edwards returning as Creative Director.

The game is targeting Steam Early Access in 2027, though an exact date hasn't been announced.

From Pacific Islands to an Endless Desert River

Instead of the ocean, Stranded Deep 2 strands players in a harsh landscape shaped by scorching heat, winding rivers, towering canyons, and dangerous wildlife. At the center of the experience is an endless river carving through canyons, dunes, and valleys, giving players a consistent lifeline into a much larger wilderness.

Players navigate by kayak or raft, with the world built around a growing library of handcrafted content rather than a purely procedural, infinitely repeating loop, meaning new biomes, locations, and wildlife can be layered in over time as the game develops.

According to the developers, Stranded Deep 2 isn't a direct narrative continuation of the original game, functioning instead as a new survival adventure that may include the occasional nod to its predecessor.

The environment itself reacts to players, with dynamic water and terrain letting them dig into the landscape, reshape terrain, and redirect the river, while rapids and other hazards add friction to exploration.

Mobile Bases and a Living Ecosystem

Base building takes a mobile approach this time, letting players construct floating homes they can bring along the river rather than committing to one fixed location, or settle more permanently on the banks if they'd rather stay put.

Survival systems remain central, with players managing health, hunger, thirst, and exposure while learning to read the dangers around them.

The wilderness functions as a living ecosystem, with animals roaming, hunting, and following an actual food chain that players are part of, not necessarily at the top of. Crafting has also been reworked around a more physical approach to customization, where the specific materials players gather directly shape the tools and structures they can build.

The returning Cartographer tool has been revamped as Cartographer 2.0, letting players build their own locations and share them with friends across platforms.

Built to Expand After Launch

North Beach Games says Stranded Deep 2 was designed from the ground up around a modular foundation, allowing new biomes, locations, wildlife, crafting systems, and Cartographer content to be added well after launch.

Co-op is being developed as a first-class feature as well, though the studio hasn't yet detailed player counts or the full scope of multiplayer support.

Stranded Deep 2 is developed and published by North Beach Games, which opened an internal development studio in Prague in 2024 to expand its work in the survival crafting genre.

The studio's most recent release was the Durin's Folk expansion for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria . Players can wishlist Stranded Deep 2 now on Steam and follow its development through the game's official channels.
