'The Thaumaturge': People, power and demons in last century Warsaw

Mystical fantasy role-playing game "The Thaumaturge" takes you back to Warsaw in 1905 where you become Wiktor Szulski, a man with supernatural powers who's investigating the mysterious death of this father.

Like his late father, Szulski is a thaumaturge, someone with the ability to read his environment, influence people and reveal secrets. He is aided by salutors, demonic figures that represent human flaws.

Turn-based battles and strategic planning are at the heart of this game, supplemented by dialogues and exploration. Szulski's ability to use the salutors provides exciting tactical options.

The puzzles he faces are logical and never unfair. The greatest challenge is often to remain true to your moral principles because they're always in danger when it comes to control and power.

The depiction of historical Warsaw, which combines luxury, progress, poverty and crime, is impressive thanks to its attention to detail and dense atmosphere. Dark alleys, historical locations and the design of the salutors create a world that is both fascinating and eerie.

One thing is certain, you cannot just play this game casually. It requires strategic thinking and repeatedly presents players with uncomfortable questions. But anyone who gets involved will discover an RPG that's different — in the best sense of the word.

"The Thaumaturge" is available for PCs for around $30 and for the PS5 and Xbox Series for around $55. The age rating is 16 years.
