Valorborn Launches in Steam Early Access on April 15
Valorborn, the upcoming sandbox RPG from Laps Games, is set to launch in Steam Early Access for PC via Steam on April 15, 2026. The announcement was revealed during IGN Fan Fest, confirming the studio's next major project following the success of Land of the Vikings .
Set in a systemic medieval fantasy world, Valorborn aims to deliver a player-driven experience where the world evolves independently of player actions.
A Living World Built on Systemic Simulation
At its core, Valorborn is designed around a living simulation.
Villagers follow daily routines, factions compete for dominance, and dangers roam across the land whether players choose to intervene or not. Every building, cave, and point of interest is fully enterable, removing decorative or inaccessible spaces and reinforcing immersion.
The world continues to move forward regardless of player presence, creating a reactive environment shaped by consequence and opportunity.
Choose Your Path
Players are free to define their own role in the world of Valorborn. From becoming a thief, picking locks and fencing stolen goods, to becoming a traveling sellsword, accepting contracts to eliminate threats - everything you can do in a medieval fantasy setting can be done in the game.
Adventurers can survive alone or build a party, with each decision influencing how their story unfolds. Consider going with a party for your first playthrough, though, as the game features Permadeath, making every small choice you make in the game much more impactful and meaningful.
The Fall of Allarion
Valorborn begins after the collapse of the Empire of Allarion, a once-unified realm where magic powered daily life. Over time, excessive reliance on magic led to corruption of both body and mind, culminating in a cataclysm that shattered the empire.
Early Access begins in Thareon, one of the kingdoms that emerged from the ruins. Thareon operates under a strict anti-magic doctrine, hunting magic users and destroying anything tied to arcane power. The result is a harsh world shaped by control, fear, and survival.
As the game enters Early Access, the developers also shared their target features upon the game's full release. For the full game, players will eventually be able to select their race, choose a starting position, pick from various backstories, and begin with a blank origin, for the ultimate roleplaying experience.
