Xbox's next console has been priced, and yes it will cost you a small fortune

Microsoft announced its special edition Xbox Series X25 console in June, but we've not heard much about it since. However, trusted leaker Billbil-kun claims to have learned the release date and price. And we hope you're sitting down.

Reporting on French site Dealabs , the leaker revealed that the 25th anniversary Xbox Series X will cost a jaw-dropping €899.99, with the US version likely an equivalent $899.99. That could equate to around £849 in the UK.

It's €100 / $100 more than a standard Xbox Series X at today's prices.

You do get the special translucent green shell and a wireless controller to match, but the innards are the same as the model released six years ago. It's a lot to ask for a current-generation machine, especially when it matches the price of the more powerful PS5 Pro .

Xbox Series X25 special edition release date

Billbil-kun has also confirmed that the Xbox Series X25 will be available from Friday 27 November 2026, which just so happens to be Black Friday. That's thought to be a coincidence, but it could mean standard Xbox models might be available in the sales, so you'll have a decision to make.

There's no doubt that the XSX25 is a cool thing to covet, especially if you fondly remember the translucent green original Xbox. But that sort of money for a current-gen console that's coming to the end of its run seems steep.

Sadly, the components crisis shows no signs of letting up any time soon, so this is just a continuation of elevated pricing for gaming kit, it seems. And how much will Project Helix be in comparison?

It's looking ever more likely that it will be a $1,000 console – possibly with an even higher ticket.
