This Way to Get Cheaper Nintendo Switch Games Will Stop Working Next Year
Nintendo is ending a scheme that savvy gamers used to save money on some of the Switch's most popular titles. Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers are set to end in early 2026.
In a lengthy FAQ post outlining the new rules, Nintendo confirmed it would stop selling the vouchers from Jan. 30, 2026. Those with outstanding vouchers can continue to use them for a year from purchase, meaning this deal will end on Jan. 30, 2027.
You have just over six months to purchase new vouchers, and the last opportunity to use them will be a little over 18 months away. The vouchers can be purchased by anyone with a Switch Online membership.
Priced at $99.99, the vouchers can be exchanged for two games from the Switch catalogue. Many games included in the scheme are priced at $59.99 each, giving a saving of around $10 per a title. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is also included, despite costing $69.99. Buying that game is the best saving you can make with these vouchers.
Many popular games from franchises such as Animal Crossing, Bayonetta, Mario, Splatoon, Pokémon, Pikmin, and Zelda are included. You can see all eligible games here . The brand says more games will come to the service throughout the rest of its lifespan, and it notes new titles will be "added when pre-orders start on Nintendo eShop."
Nintendo's own software very rarely drops in price, especially on the company's own store. The Switch Game Vouchers scheme has proven a helpful way for customers to get discounts on these expensive titles.
The company confirmed previously it wouldn't be offering the scheme for Switch 2 games , and there's currently no sign of the company offering an alternative. This voucher scheme was introduced a few years into the original Switch's lifespan launching in the US in May 2019. That's just over two years after the launch of the Switch, so could Nintendo do something similar in 2027 for the Switch 2? Only time will tell.
One of the big talking points of the Nintendo Switch 2's launch has been the company's move toward price hikes with Mario Kart World being its first game to hit $79.99. That may now be the norm for many games, although the company will sell Donkey Kong Bananza for $69.99. That game comes out on July 17.
