AMD May Have More Info on RX 9070 Release by Late February
The wait for AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs to make an official appearance might be over by the end of the month. AMD announced the Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 GPUs at CES in January but offered little detail and suggested that we'd learn more about them by the end of the quarter, which would be the last day of March. AMD also hinted that the RX 9060 would be coming down the road, but kept the details close to its vest there, too. But the Taiwan-based Benchlife gave chip watchers a jolt today when it mentioned that AMD is planning a press event.
"If nothing unexpected happens," Benchlife wrote , "AMD will hold a press conference for the Radeon RX 9000 series based on the RDNA 4 GPU architecture at the end of February, but the details are still to be confirmed."

As Videocardz points out , even news of an upcoming press event doesn't give us the info that everyone wants, which is a launch date. Gamers who have been delaying new PC builds while they wait for next-gen GPUs are largely still waiting. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 went on sale last week, but retailers were woefully understocked for the massive demand. Some retailers may have only had four RTX 5090s on hand when their doors opened. Nvidia has more of both cards on the way to retailers, but it could be a while .
Still, both of Nvidia's next-gen GPUs to reach retailers are high-end graphics processors. As Steam's monthly hardware survey shows, a huge segment of gamers are running midrange (and lower) hardware. That category of gamers is still waiting for AMD or Nvidia to get new, affordable GPUs to market. And if the releases go the way Nvidia's RTX 5090 and 5080 release did, many gamers will have to wait even longer.
Some of the information we have about AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 come from retailers inadvertently putting card specs on their websites. Because those card specs aren't confirmed, we're not putting much stock in them yet. However, we know that the cards will have better ray-tracing capabilities and better frame generation, which are crucial advancements if AMD is going to keep up with Nvidia.
Neither of AMD's first cards to hit market will be competitors to Nvidia's RTX 5090 flagship, but AMD isn't fighting for King of the Hill status at the moment. AMD is focusing on the midrange market with the RX 9000—it just needs to hurry up and get there.
